Review: Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm and Matte Balm

I was pleasantly surprised when I found the new Revolon Colorburst Lacquer Balms and Matte Balms at Ulta last week. Somehow, I managed to resist the urge to take home the entire display and only purchased one of each. I have the Lacquer Balm in Provocateur and the matte balm in Shameless.

Provocateur and Shameless

Both are in a retractable chubby pencil format, and the packaging is the same as the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. The Matte Balms have a matte finish on the tube, and the Lacquer Balms have a shiny finish. Both of the balms have the same minty smell as the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. I'm not a fan of the smell, but it does not bother me once the product is applied.

I have been wearing the Lacquer Balm in Provocateur like mad all week because this is a red that is easy to wear. Lip liner is not necessary. This cherry red color is pigmented with a glossy finish, and even though Revlon makes no claim for this to be long wearing, it is. I do not find the formula to be drying, but it's not particularly moisturizing either. On the lips, it has a very similar feeling to the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains

I purchased the Colorburst Matte Balm in the color Shameless because I don't have any other lip color like it.  This deep purple shade is very pigmented with a true matte finish and is incredibly long wearing. Like many other matte lipsticks, I do find this to be very drying, so I have to work with it when I wear it. So far, my favorite way to wear this is with a lilac gloss on top. A matte finish isn't one that I typically prefer, so using a gloss works for me. If you prefer a matte finish I suggest using a balm before you apply.

Overall, I really like both of these, but the Lacquer Balms are by far my favorite.  I could not find any information about how available these will be in the future. Revlon does not mention these on their website, and the display did not say limited edition. UPDATE: I got in touch with Revlon via twitter, and they tweeted me back saying that the Lacquer Balms and Matte Balms are permanent but just in select stores now. If you can't find them, or you can't find the shade you want, then just wait and you should be able to find them in the future.

  1. Someone else just recommended this same red for it's wearability. I think I need it!

  3. You do need it! It's a red that you can wear without all of the work. I plan to get a lot of wear out of this for the Holiday season. xoxo

    1. I found them at my Ulta, and according to Revlon, they are permanent but are in limited places right now. My guess is they will eventually be everywhere Revlon is sold. I found them on a separate display. Let me know if you find it. xoxo

    1. Both great colors! According to Revlon, these are going to be permanent, so if you can't find them now, then they should be restocked eventually. Good luck! Thanks for stopping by!
