December Favorites

Happy New Year! I hope each and every one of you had a great 2013 and your 2014 is even better! Because this blog was created at the end of the year, I have decided to just do a December favorites instead of doing a best of 2013 post.

The Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is what I have been using to apply foundation all month. Usually, I apply liquid foundation with my hands, but I decided to try using a brush again. I have still been mixing my Dr. Jart bb cream in with my foundation, but I don't like having to mix it on my hand. It makes too much of a mess. I started just applying it to the brush and then my face, and it worked nicely and mixed the colors together for me as it applied. The size and shape of the brush works well for me. I really like the short, synthetic bristles for foundation because it doesn't soak up and waste too much product and makes it very easy to clean.

The Chanel Nail Colour in Rouge Rubis was my favorite nail color in December. (Review and swatches here.) I change my nail color quite frequently and loved my sparkly reds, but there was just something about wearing a red creme that really appealed to me for the week of Christmas. It stayed on really well throughout the entire week that I was traveling. Since this is what I decided to wear for Christmas festivities, I decided it must be a favorite.

With so much going on during the month of December, it is very easy to look tired and a little run down. I used the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude to brighten up my eyes. Using a nude liner on the waterline is a great way to open up the eyes and make them look more awake. Nude also looks more natural than a bright white. I even used this around the inner corners of the eyes to open up that area.

Since it has been cold and my skin hasn't been oily, I've been enjoying using highlighters during the month of December. I really enjoyed shimmer over the holiday season. The highlighter that I have been reaching for the most is the Wet n Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow. (Review and swatches here.) It is a beautiful pink champagne color that looks nice over all of my blushes.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light is a beautiful finishing powder. The Ambient Lighting Powders are a bit difficult to explain. They are not meant to be setting powders, but they add a nice finish over all of your makeup to make you look like you are in good lighting. So, I guess you would say that the Ambient Lighting Powders are more "finishing" powders than "setting" powders. I like to use Diffused Light over my finished makeup. It does not get cakey when used over other powders, which is a must with this type of product. Diffused Light even works well over undereye concealer because of the yellow tint. This is the only shade of the Ambient Lighting Powders that I own, but I would love to try another shade.

My skincare favorite for December is the Overnight Restorative Cream from Algenist. I have been using a large sample and am very impressed with it. It is a very emollient night cream that really plumps up the skin in a way that is noticeable to me. This has not caused any breakouts or skin issues at all. This is almost used up, but I have been using it for over two weeks. I recommend this night cream and will consider purchasing this in the full size when I am in need of a new night cream. I even used this a couple of times on my hands when my hand creams didn't seem to work.

I almost forgot to include this! For hair, I have really been enjoying the L'Oreal Color Vibrancy Nourishing Conditioner. I got this product because I had a coupon, but I am so impressed. This has decreased my need for extra hair masks or leave-in conditioners. My hair feels soft and manageable. I will definitely be checking out more hair products from L'Oreal.

  5. I love the Hourglass Ambient powder in Diffused light. I have a lot of redness to conceal, and it really helps. I also have Mood Light, which is a big pink/purple to correct sallowness. Being part Asian, I do have some sallowness. So the two are perfect. Trying to work with my first set of Real Techniques brushes. I got the blush, and it is a bit of a bear!!!! I hope you nailed your audition, in that gorgeous red dress :)

    1. I will have to go swatch mood light again. The first time I looked at it, I thought it was too shimmery, but I've been into that lately. My feelings about it may be different now. lol The RT blush brush is huge! The best way that I have found to use it is to get the blush just on the tip, so the clean bristles will blend it out as you go.

The audition went really well. Thank you so much for asking! I didn't win, but it was a really good experience for several reasons. It was open to the public, so my husband got to be there to see me perform. I also got to talk to the judges after it was over, and they had great feedback and advice. Overall, it was a great experience!
