Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Lash Extension System Review

I am back from a bit of a blogging break for another review! I had so much work during the week of Easter that it left little time for blogging, but I used that time to test out some products! Don't worry! I will continue on with my review of my BH Cosmetics goodness, but I wanted to go ahead and review The Too Faced Better Than False Lashes because this was requested from a friend.

The Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Lash Extension System first came to my attention during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale, so I looked at the reviews on the Ulta website. People seemed to love it or hate it with little in between, so I decided to pass on it. Luckily, I had a coupon when this review was requested.

This product claims to give you the look of false lashes in just 3 steps.
1. Prime your lashes by applying a coat of the Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat.
2. Build your lashes by brushing on 1-2 coats of the Nylon Lash Fibers.
3. Seal and finish the look by adding another coat of the Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat.
I have found that this system works best for me if I add another step to this process and add another coat of a different mascara. I have been using the Lancome Definicils because that's what I have open right now, but you could use any mascara you want. I get the best results from using a lengthening and defining mascara over a volumizing one. I have a sample of the Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara and used it for my extra step once, but I didn't like it. Why I do this extra step will be explained below.

Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat Brush

Nylon Lash Fibers
The fibers look like fuzz!

With one coat of the Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat, my lashes were lengthened and well defined. If you blink this mascara will transfer to your bottom lashes, but that doesn't really bother me. What does bother me is that this mascara is extremely sticky, which is great for getting the fibers to stay on your lashes, but don't touch your lashes. Your lashes will go from defined to clumpy very quickly! Next, try to brush the Nylon Lash Fibers onto your lashes evenly. From this point on, you have to work carefully and take your time, or you will end up with a mess! You don't want the fibers to clump on one section of your lashes, so you have to really take your time to get an even coating. Then, I go back and apply the Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat to seal in the fibers and make my lashes black again. You could stop here, but this mascara is so sticky! It makes my top lashes stick to my bottom lashes at the outer corners if I don't add another mascara over it to prevent that from happening! Also, if anything touches your lashes at all, they will stick together and clump! I think this is the reason that so many people really don't like this product. It just needs an additional top coat in order to work.

The fibers are safe for contact lense wearers. I wear contacts, and I haven't had any issues with the fibers getting in my eyes or causing any irritation. Just take your time with it.

The staying power with this system is great. I haven't had any issues with fibers flaking off or anything. I really like the results I get from this system, and adding an additional step has made a huge difference in how this works for me.

As with the application, the removal takes a little more time. According to the box, all you have to do is use warm water and rub on the tips of the lashes. For me, removing the mascara and fibers is more of a process. I start by using water to get the removal process started. Then, I gently work in my eye makeup remover to my lashes and wipe it all away with a makeup remover wipe. It's really easy to want to tug at your lashes, but resist as much as you can.

My lashes before!

One Coat of the Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat

The final product. Used exactly as stated in the directions without an extra mascara.

I have been wearing this system a lot recently, so there lots of pictures of me wearing this. It was the source of clumping in my BH Cosmetics Rose Blush Duo review. (Click HERE if you want to see!) Overall, I really like this product, and it's great once you get the hang of it.

Because I don't think you can get the full effect of this mascara just from the pictures above, here's a preview of my Forever Glam Palette Review. I am wearing this mascara system with my added step!

Pros: Adds length and volume to your lashes and really does give you the false lash look!

Cons: Sticky mascara that can be tricky! It takes longer to apply and to remove.

What do you think? Have you tried it? I love to hear your thoughts!

  1. How many times have you used this? I've seen a couple reviews, and one was slightly negative in saying that once you apply the fibers, the wand never really works the same again due to the sticky mascara getting on the fiber wand. Does that bother you? Would really love to know what you think!

    1. I've been using it for over 2 weeks now almost every day (so well over 10 times), and it's still working the same. The full face photo in the review was taken after I had been using it over a week. I haven't had trouble with the fiber wand. I coat both lashes with the base coat, then go back in with the fibers. Maybe that gives the base coat a little time to dry? Not sure, but that hasn't happened to me. I still get a good coating of fibers at almost 3 weeks out. It's just that this product is very tricky, and you have to be careful and take your time. If you're in a rush at all, you'll end up with a mess! I think it's a really good concept, but it does need some improvements to make it easier to use. xoxo Lauren

    1. Thank you! It is fussy, and doesn't work exactly as the directions say. It's one of those products that takes some time to apply and to use, or it ends up in a big mess! I've been using it for almost 3 weeks, and I still like it. xoxo Lauren

  4. Damn your lashes look amazing! I've seen a ton of reviews hating on this product, but I can't argue with those results! Did it work just as well the second time & times after using it? I'd love to know!

    1. Yeah, reviews have been really mixed on this. I've been using it for almost 3 weeks and have been getting the same results. The full face photo in the review was taken after I had been using it for over a week. I haven't had any issues with it after I figured out to put another mascara over it all at the end. You do have to really take your time to get this to work, though, so I can see why people don't like it and have a lot of problems when using it. It's a really good idea, but needs some changes. xoxo Lauren

  6. Wow your lashes look great! Sounds like its kind of a pain to apply, but maybe I'll pick it up for special occasions. It works out well because I just got an email saying that Sephora in JcPenney's is having a sale on it.
    Great review!

    1. Thank you Kelly! It is a bit of a pain to apply but worth it if you have the time. Defintiely pick it up if it's on sale! The great thing about Sephora is you can return it if you don't like it. xoxo Lauren

  7. Oh this is interesting- too funny because I wrote today also a review about too faced! Those fibers somehow scare me and stickiness too- haha! But well, what do we do to look pretty, right? Thanks for your honest opinion my dear! XOXO, Sissi
