Play! by Sephora -- My First Box

As soon as I heard that Sephora was coming out with a monthly subscription service, I knew I was interested. Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box for $10 a month that contains six samples every month. All of the samples are of products that you can purchase at Sephora. There was a waiting list when I signed up, and I got an email when the service became available to me. You can go to sephora.com/play if you want to get on the list.

The theme of this box is Uncover the Essentials. It came with a booklet that has a lot of information and trivia about the products. Also, it came with a Play Pass that you can scan at Sephora when you make a purchase and receive 50 extra Beauty Insider points. The only drawback to that is that you have to go to Sephora and buy something to get your points. Sephora has had a lot of customer dissatisfaction when it comes to their loyalty program lately, so I'm not sure if this is an attempt to do better or if it's more of the same.

Let's dive into this box!

Glamglow Supercleanse - I am a huge fan of the Glamglow masks, so I am very happy to find this in the box. It is a different sort of cleanser. You use it dry first, and then you add water. I like it!

Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil - I haven't used much Bumble and bumble, so I'm happy to have this deluxe sample. This oil is a heat/UV protective primer. I use something like this in my hair every time I wash it, so this will get plenty of use.

Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation - This is a light moisturizing cream containing vitamin C. I have so many samples of moisturizers at the moment. Ole Henriksen is a great brand, so I'm eager to try this anyway. This can also be found in a set of Ole Henriksen bestsellers. So tempting!

Elizabeth and James Nirvana White - This is a simple floral fragrance with notes of peony, musk, and lily of the valley. It's very crisp upon first spray but sweetens a little as it dries down. It's soft and pretty but nothing unique. This is the size of sample that you can get with most Sephora orders. It's not amazing. I like getting perfume samples, so I'm not disappointed.

Marc Jacobs Highliner in Blacquer - Most subscription boxes are full of black eyeliner samples, but this is a good one. It's a twist up gel crayon. The product applies smoothly and stays put.

Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion in Peony - I've heard a lot about the Sephora brand lip stains, so I'm glad to have the chance to try it. Peony is a neutral pink color that would flatter a variety of skin tones. I've only tried this once, and it was a bit patchy on my lips. I think this one will be better for me with a gloss over it.

Overall, my first Play! by Sephora box was a success! I love the variety of products and the thought that went into this first box. There's a good mix of products -- makeup, skincare, haircare, fragrance. I love that a couple of the brands are exclusive to Sephora. This box is a great way to try out products and maybe even find a new favorite. With the exception of the fragrance, all of the items in this box are completely new to me. I can't wait to see what comes in October's box!
