Play! by Sephora | October 2015

I received my second box from Play! by Sephora last week. For those of you that are curious, Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box for $10 a month that contains six samples every month. All of the samples are of products that you can purchase at Sephora. There was a waiting list when I signed up, and I got an email when the service became available to me. You can go to sephora.com/play if you want to get on the list.

The theme of this box is Secrets to Dewy Skin. Let's take a look inside.

Fresh Black Tea Age-Dealy Instant Infusion Treatment Toner - is a moisturizing toner. Not too exciting, but I'll give it a try. I do like the Fresh brand as a whole. They use more natural ingredients than most brands.

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb - is a lightweight gel-cream. I haven't heard of this brand. Evidently, it's a Korean skincare brand. I like creams that are lightweight, so I'm happy to have a sample of this.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint SPF15 - is a tinted moisturizer with spf15. It has very light coverage and gives me a bit of color, but I'm really light. This wouldn't work for darker skin tones. I feel like the spf15 is pointless. You really need about spf30, so I still have to apply my daily moisturizer before this. It's not a decent replacement for me. I do like it for minimal makeup days. I'm wearing it in the picture below without any concealer (except under my eyes) or setting powder.

Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser - is a purifying gel cleanser. I used it with the small konjac sponge that came with it, and my face felt super clean. I'm a fan of gel cleansers, and I like this one. I don't see the point in using a cleanser if your face doesn't feel clean afterwards.

Sephora Pearl Mask - is a sheet mask containing real white pearl. I was excited to give this a try, but I didn't really like how it felt on my skin after I removed the mask. I was expecting it to feel like a serum, but it was a little too heavy for my taste. It never really sank in to my skin. I used it in the morning, and I think I would have felt differently about it if I used it as a nighttime treatment. That's how I plan on using my other sheet masks.

Atelier Cologne Mandarine Glaciale - If Sephora is going to include small fragrance samples, then it should be from niche houses like Atelier Cologne and not something I can go smell anywhere. This particular fragrance is a bright citrus scent. Fragrances from Atelier Cologne are unisex, and I happen to think this one would smell better on my husband than me. I'm not a huge fan of citrus fragrances anyway, but I'm glad I got to give this one a try. My husband enjoys cologne samples, so it all works out.

Overall, I like this box, but it was far less exciting than last month's box. There were a couple of distinct misses in this box for me, and I'm not sure there were any true hits there either. The products that I do like aren't very exciting anyway. Like last month, there's a booklet with lots of helpful information about each product and a Play Pass that gives 50 extra beauty insider points with an in-store purchase.
