Studio Gear True Whipped Stain Glosses | Review & Swatches

Liquid lipsticks have never been a favorite of mine. For the most part, I consider them to be messy and too much trouble to apply. The applicator has to be just right. So many companies are coming out with highly rated liquid lipsticks and lip stains that something must be different about these new products.

I have True Wine, True Burgundy, True Red, True Fuchsia, and True Pebble. I appreciate that each shade is appropriately named and sums up the shade description.

What in the world is a whipped stain gloss? Here's what the package has to say about it.

The whipped stain glosses come with a doe foot applicator that has a curve to it. The curve helps dispense more product in one dip into the tube. You don't have to keep going back for more product to get a full application. The tube closes securely and snaps shuts. You don't have to worry about it making a mess in your makeup bag.

The product itself does have a whipped texture to it. There's not a smell or taste to the product. I wouldn't be able to wear any of these if that was the case. There's the word gloss in the name, but the finish isn't glossy. It's more creamy. It does have a bit of shine right after it's applied, but that goes away after you blot or after it wears for a bit down to a demi-matte. The formula isn't drying on my lips, but I would not call it moisturizing either. Don't use any kind of a lip stain if you need moisturizing. The most I hope for in wearing any kind of long-lasting lip product is that it is not drying. These aren't uncomfortable, but I can feel them on my lips. Even though it does stain, this product is not smudge-proof or budge-proof. It will transfer to what your lips touch. This is probably why they aren't drying like other lip stains. Even with all of the color transfer, the color lasts all day on the lips.

Left side: True Fuchsia
Right side top-bottom: True Pebble, True Red, True Burgundy, True Wine
As for the colors, I'm surprised to say that I like all of them. I wear colors like True Fuchsia and True Red all the time, so those are my favorites. I thought True Pebble was too gray for me at first. If I blot it once after I apply it, I really like the shade on me.  I didn't think that the dark shades, True Burgundy and True Wine, would look good on me, but I like them more than I expected. The weather has felt a bit like fall lately, so I can still get away with the dark lip colors. Not that I follow any sort of rules! You should wear whatever you feel like wearing!

When Masks Review

Sheet masks aren't new, even in the US, but they are relativity new to me. You see, I didn't like the first sheet mask I tried, and that pretty much led me to think that maybe these sheet mask things weren't for me. Luckily, I had the chance to try some sheet masks from When that had me take another look at them!

Here's a little about the brand from When:

When, launched by J.C People in July 2011, is a premium face mask brand taking extra care of your skin at anytime, anywhere, in any situations. High-quality and unique, our face masks have been receiving overwhelming responses from overseas buyers. Headquartered in Korea, we have successfully started our international expansion in November 2012 by launching in the US via the world's largest cosmetics sales channel, Sephora. We have further expanded to reach Europe, China, and the Middle East. We strive to become a worldwide leading face mask brand.

When’s core target consumers are active modern ladies who have multiple roles and responsibilities to juggle and are always pressed for time. We aim to provide our customers with simple, hassle-free yet fun experience in skin care for the special ‘me-moments’.

Our mission is to develop and deliver sustainable, high value-adding products with innovative functions and creative design. We want to offer reliable products with:
1) low irritation risk and 2) high effectiveness that consumers can buy with 3) confidence.

The instructions for each mask are the same. After you've washed a dried your face, you peel off the paper and the cloth side of the mask, and smooth it over your face.  Leave on the mask for 30 minutes, and rub in the extra product.

The first product I tried was the Snow Magic mask, and (spoiler alert!) of the masks are similar. Here's what I noticed about all of the masks:

  • lots of product in each mask
  • The mask itself feels gel-like and cool on the face.
  • Even though there's plenty of product, it doesn't feel sticky or heavy when the mask is removed.
  • product massages in easily and absorbs quickly
When Snow Magic - When you want to lighten up, put on When Snow Magic. When bio-cellulose sheet mask for face contains gentle, moisturizing ingredients to help your skin find its radiance and charm.

  • I'm not sure if this made my skin brighter, but it did feel hydrated and more radiant in that way.
When 10:00 PM - When your skin feels tired, find comfort with When 10:00 PM. When bio-cellulose sheet mask for face contains gentle-moisturizing ingredients to help your skin look refreshed.

  • This felt a lot like the Snow Magic mask. My skin did feel refreshed and hydrated.

When Glamour Base - When you want to look beautiful for that special day, prepare with When Glamour Base. When bio-cellulose sheet mask for face contains gentle, moisturizing ingredients to help you look glamorous.

  • This mask was very moisturizing. I put on makeup after I used this one, and I liked how my skin looked. You can use any of these masks before applying makeup, but this one was the most moisturizing.
Any of the When masks are a good idea when you are tired and need a relaxing treat. I prefer to recline when I use a sheet mask because I'm afraid they're going to fall off of my face if I'm up moving around. These masks won't fall off of your face if you have things to do, but why waste a perfectly good chance to relax? When masks are perfect for an at-home spa day, or in preparation for a night out, or just because you have some extra time to treat yourself.

You can find more information about When masks at They can be purchased at Ulta, Sephora, Anthropologie, BeautyChoice, and Birchbox.

Do you like sheet masks? Which ones are your favorites? I love your recommendations!

Spring Favorites

Doing a monthly favorites post is something I usually aspire to do, but most of the time it isn't realistic for me. I try so many products, and while I usually like almost everything, most aren't what I would consider a favorite. The products I have today are items that are more like surprise spring favorites - products I wasn't expecting to like quite as much as I did!

YSL La Laque Couture - 07 Peace Green - Okay, so this first one isn't a surprise favorite. Peace Green is part of the YSL spring collection. I saw this on Instagram and knew I had to stop by the counter to see it in person. It's a light green with a pink duochrome. I've been wearing this color nonstop.

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder - 01 Stay Buff - I bought this on a whim, but it turns out that I really like this powder! It's nice as a matte setting powder, but I also really like it on its own. Applied with the sponge applicator, it gives pretty good coverage. The sponge washes really well, and it hasn't started to break down at all. I have used this so much that I've already hit pan on it!

Benefit Coralista Blush - Your guess is as good as mine as to why it has taken me this long to try the Benefit boxed blushes, but I'm loving them! This coral shade is right up my alley right now. I like my coral and peachy shades for spring.

Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation - If I could describe what I want out of a foundation in one word it would be easy. I want a foundation that is easy to apply, easy to wear, and has easy to use packaging. This one does the trick for me, and being from Covergirl, it's also easy to find and easy to afford! It's easy to apply with your hands, a brush, or a sponge. The coverage is medium, and it has a natural finish. This is a foundation that you can wear, and it won't wear you. I was not expecting to like this as much as I do.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Creme - Nurturing - This is a limited edition shade that I got in a set, but it's still available. I never really gave the LipSurgences any thought because I'm not a fan of minty flavored lip products, but this isn't strong at all. Nurturing is described as a nude pink, but it looks more like a peach shade to me. Either way, I like the way it looks and feels on my lips.

Loving my coral & peach shades!
