Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color

Liquid lipsticks are everywhere! It seems like every high-end brand has one, and more drugstore brands are getting in on the action! Influenster kindly sent me a couple of the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Colors to try. I received Nude Flush and Rebel Red.

The first thing I noticed is the rather long doe-foot applicator. I didn't think it was going to work very well at first, but because it's at a slight angle I was still able to get a precise application without getting it everywhere.

The product is named Vivid Matte, but I have to say that it's not really matte. Neither of the colors are super glossy or shiny, but they never really dry down to a true matte. The Vivid Mattes are opaque and are pigmented, but I would say these are more like a lip cream in terms of finish. They feel comfortable on the lips, and they don't leave your lips feeling dried out like a lot of matte liquid lipsticks. While there aren't any claims to the Vivid Mattes being long-lasting, these last almost all day on me. The lip color will transfer a little onto a glass, but it stays on very well and leaves a stain.

While I do like these and have worn them like crazy since I got them, I do have a gripe, and it's not a new one with Maybelline lip products. They have a floral smell and taste! Back when I had only been blogging a few months, I got one of the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Colors and had to return it because I couldn't tolerate the taste. (You can read that review here.) Thankfully, the amount of fragrance in these seems to be dialed in, and I can wear these without gagging. I would prefer if Maybelline stopped adding that awful fragrance to lip products altogether. If you have an intolerance to strong fragrances in your makeup, consider this your warning!

I enjoy wearing both of these shades. Of the two, I have worn Nude Flush the most. It's a pink nude, and it goes with everything. This is a shade that I can apply without having to give much thought. It's a good everyday lip color. I'm a huge fan of red lips, so you know I like Rebel Red. It's a true red; it doesn't pull too orange or pink. If you're looking for an affordable red that will last all day, this is one to try.

I was a little leery of these because of my bad experience with the Color Elixir, but luckily, they worked out! What do you think? Have you tried the Maybelline Vivid Mattes, yet?

Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Eye Collection

If you hang out with me on Snapchat, then you'll know that I went to see my parents recently. Knowing that I probably wouldn't wear makeup every day, I wanted to only pack just enough. I took some items from the Physicians Formula Sexy Booster collection with me for my eye makeup. I ended up wearing makeup almost every day I was there, and I was able to use all of the products in different ways like I normally would.

Much of what Physicians Formula does can seem like a gimmick wrapped up in adorable packaging. What Physicians Formula says makes it seem that way:

Sexy Boosting Formula: infused with the scent of warm vanilla, pheromone-mimicking ingredients including clinically tested Androstadienone, Cocoa Extract (aka "the Love Chemical") and ancient aphrodisiac Horny Goatweed to enhance your sexy side.

umm -- okay. Let's see how well they wear!

First up, I have the Sexy Booster Oh So Sexy Eye Shadow Quad. Physicians Formula does a great job coming up with the cutest packaging. At the same time, I really don't like their packaging because it breaks so easily. This broke the first time I opened it. At least this one can be glued back together, but come on! Moving on. There are four shades in this palette with silver oversprays on each shade. All of the shades have a bit of a shimmer to them. They aren't all that pigmented, but they are smooth and blend easily. I wasn't expecting much out of this palette, but I do like the look I get when I use all of the shades. The vanilla scent isn't too strong, so it's not bothersome to me. This palette comes with a weird sponge-tip applicator that I haven't even tried to use. I almost wish companies would stop including those and just make the packaging sleeker. It might be just me, but the applicators get in the way and end up falling on the floor anyway.

Next up, I have the liners for you! I wasn't sure about the Sexy Booster Cat Eye Collection Liquid Eyeliner at first. I'm not much of a liquid eyeliner person because I find a lot of them to be messy. This one has a long felt tip applicator that makes it easy to get really close to the lashes. I like to wipe off a bit of the product before I apply it to keep from making a mess. Because I do that, I have to dip the applicator back into the product a couple of times in order to get the liner to look even. If I try to go in one swipe, where I begin looks much darker than where I end up. (You can see what I mean in the swatch below.) I'm happy to say that I haven't made a complete mess using this liner, and it isn't as difficult to use as I was expecting.

I have the eye kohl kajal from the Ooh La La Sexy Eyes Trio. (I got all of these eye products in a different set that doesn't seem to be available anymore, so I don't have the other items in that set. I'll gladly get it and review it if anyone wants to know about the other two items.) I've seen kohl kajals in a couple of different drugstore brands but haven't used them before. I had no idea what to expect. The kajal isn't super black. If I had to name the color, I would call it a soft black. It applies smoothly and evenly; there's no tugging at all. Also, this works really well in the waterline. I don't feel like I'm hurting my eyes trying to put this on my waterline, and it will stay. Another expected dud that seemed to work out!

The Sexy Booster Cat Eye Collection Mascara has a large brush with short rubber bristles. The formula is more on the dry side. When I use this I get a lot of length and volume with separation. A lot of mascaras can give volume, but at a certain point, they start to my lashes clump like crazy. This doesn't do that, and I think it's because of the brush. The short bristles seem to get in between the lashes to keep them separated.

As you can probably tell, I had fairly low expectations of Physicians Formula's products. In the past, I've found a lot of their items to be just okay, and I've had issues with packaging that breaks too easily. The Sexy Booster line is a fun concept, and the products are interesting. Everything has the vanilla scent to it, even the eyeliners and mascara. I think that's a bit strange, but the vanilla isn't strong and hasn't caused a reaction.

I've gotten a lot of Physicians Formula products recently, so I challenged myself to a mostly Physicians Formula face of the day below!

top shade under brows
2nd shade on lid
brown shade in crease
black in outer corner

Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls - Beige Pearl - highlighter
Kohl Kajal in Black from Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Ooh La La Sexy Eyes Trio - in waterline
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color - Rebel Red* - review coming soon

If you have made it this far, thanks for sticking with me! The lip color was sent from Influenster, so I'll post a review soon. If there's anything else here that you want reviewed, please let me know!

Glossybox | May 2016

I got another Glossybox toward the end of May! I am still thoroughly enjoying Glossybox, but as you will see, I did give away some of the items in this box.

Rituals Cosmetics Zensation Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom Foaming Shower Gel - Shower gel isn't something that I give much thought, but this is a really nice shower gel! It makes me think of shave gel in the way that it foams up, but I feel really clean when I use it. The soft cherry blossom scent is really nice, too.

Talika Photo-Hydra Day - This is a daytime moisturizer that claims to "use energy from light to intensely moisturize the skin." It sounds like a really interesting concept, but this isn't for me. I need my daytime moisturizer to have a decent amount of spf, and this one doesn't have any. I did use this one evening, and it didn't feel like anything special on my skin. It was night, so I didn't go out in the sun and cannot tell you if that makes a difference at all. I know that I'm not going to use this, so I would like to pass this along to one of you! This is a full size product, and I've only used it one time. Just email your address to me, and you can have it. That's it. You don't have to send me anything in return or do anything else. Email me at willsingformakeup@gmail.com! I will edit this when I have someone that wants it.

Adore Cosmetics Cellmax Elite Facial Serum - Another product that just isn't for me. The first time I tried this serum, I had to wash it off because it felt so heavy on my skin. Mineral oil and silicones are listed in the ingredients, and I can really feel them! I wanted to give this a shot because a full size costs $750, but I think we can all agree that more expensive does not always mean better! I went to see my parents last week and gave this to my mom.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara - I am thrilled to have a sample of this mascara! I've heard a lot about it, but I haven't purchased one for myself. There are so many open mascaras in my stash right now, so I haven't used it yet. I will not be giving this one away.

Nioxin System 3 Cleanser and Scalp Therapy Conditioner - Nioxin products are for thinning hair and are really effective. I gave these samples to my aunt. She has only tried them once, but she said that she did think that it gave her more volume to her hair. Nioxin used to make a dandruff shampoo that I used for years until they discontinued it. It was the only product that I could find at the time that made my scalp feel clean. If you're having issues with thinning hair, then take a look at what Nioxin has to offer. They have a few different systems that might be able to help you.

It may seem like this month's box is a bit of a dud given the number of products I've given away, but I really like this box anyway. There were products that somebody else would want and use, even if I didn't. I would consider the box to be a complete failure if it had a bunch of products that I couldn't even give away. As a blogger, I have more than one person could ever use, so I don't want to keep things that I just going to take up space. I'm sure many of you understand that!

Do you pass along beauty products? Is there anything that you've given away that ended up being the other person's favorite product? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
